Saturday we decided we needed to be adventurous. Turns out as soon as we got married, Daniel and I fell into a rigorous schedule that we don't really deviate from too terribly often. To tell the truth, I love this. I love going to bed early and getting up early to get things done before school/work. I can hardly believe that I used to stay up till 3 or 4 a.m. ALL THE TIME. That seriously feels like it was a lifetime ago...when really it's only been a mere two months or so since I lived the party life. I like to think we still live the party life- it's just a lot quieter, a lot more responsible, and consists of a whopping two people (have you ever heard of anything that sounds more like a party than THAT?!).
Anyway, the point is, we were due for some serious shake ups to our routine. So we decided to go camping! I absolutely love camping and so I was pretty dang excited. The only problem was, it was freezing outside with a whole lot of snow. I've never been camping in the snow, but I think there's a reason for that. Thus, we decided to set up the tent in our living room.
As you can see, the tent took up our ENTIRE living room. When we go camping for real, I'm sure we'll appreciate this roomy tent, but it did make getting to the back of the apartment a bit difficult. If you look closely, you will notice the opening to our tent faces the tv. We did indeed take advantage of this and mixed traditional camping with modern conveniences as we played mario kart from our tent. Let me tell you, that was a good time.

Daniel and I decided to make this camping thing official and roasted hot dogs on our panini maker. It was a really eventful night to say the least. We continued the camping theme in the morning and made eggs, sausage, and biscuits. I'm actually not sure any of those breakfast things have anything to do with camping, but it just felt right.
So lucky to have such a photogenic husband ;)
Then of course, when we came home we had to deal with this mess and take it down. It was such a hassle trying to get around this thing that we couldn't wait to change out of our church clothes before putting everything away. I'll be honest and say I was a little sad to see it go. However, my sister, Haley, is coming to visit us this weekend (!!!) and Daniel told her we'll set up the tent in the parking lot for her to stay in, so I might just get to soak up some more camping glory soon ;)
You two crack me up. We have never taken the kids real camping, but we have set the tent up in the backyard for them a couple of times. I swore we would do the ward campout this year because for the first time in forever we wouldn't have a baby. But then they had it in November when I was nine months pregnant, and I have to draw the line and sleeping on the ground at that point. Maybe someday, or maybe we'll just borrow your idea and set it up inside. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou totally should! Indoor camping means...no bugs, no dirt, and a lot less packing. I'm sure with four kids, all those things would be much appreciated. And from what I read about Toto's tendencies of trying to escape the tent, this could be a nice alternative; he may escape the tent, but he won't escape the house!...probably ;)
